You’ve got to be kidding me. The guy I voted for to be the president just made my worse fears come true. He’s afraid to release terrorism suspects into the justice system because it might acquit those who the government believes are guilty. What’s the point of a justice system then? The very point of a justice system is to establish innocence or guilt in a suspect. Our president wants to have a detention program inside the US that is allowed to essentially hold someone forever without charge. These are Bush administration policies rebranded and moved inside the US. Obama attempts to allay fears by saying that the programs would be overseen by the legislative and judicial branches. This is respectable, but I object to the concept of having one justice system for some people and another for others who get the brand “terrorist” from a government with a tarnished reputation with the subject.
We should pay attention to how this develops. The thought that Obama may be trying to appease and silence Cheney at this critical point in our history sickens me.
